UPDATE …. Oasis was a great success in the fall of 2016 and will continue now in the new year. We have made a few changes for this coming season that we are very excited about. We will continue with Taizé and the Labyrinth but have decided to change the other two weeks to an education evening (a themed bible study) and a movie night, respectively. Beginning January 25, Phil Chester will be leading a bible study on the theme of “Who is my Neighbour?”. This study will run on the fourth Wednesday of the month and the movie night will be on the first Wednesday of the month. Oasis, 7pm. Speak to Deacon Ann or Deacon Brenda for more information.
“Who Is My Neighbour?” (fourth Wednesday, beginning January 25 at 7pm): Someone asked Jesus what it takes to inherit eternal life? In return, Jesus asked what the law had to say on the subject. The person replied that the law said you must love God with all your heart, all your soul and all your strength; and love your neighbour as you loved yourself. The big question then asked was who exactly is “my neighbour.” That big question still remains today; who is my neighbour and how do I love them?
Using Walter Brueggemann’s book “Journey to the Common Good,” Oasis is going to hold/run six sessions where we explore this question, specifically as it applies to the members of St. James Anglican Church here in Fergus. What does it mean for us to be good neighbours here and now?
Everyone is welcome. You will need to come with a willingness to ask questions, listen to others and to use your imagination. The six sessions will be split into three pairs. One session will be a bible study while in the next session we will explore the practical implications.
